The theme for World Oceans Day 2023 is " Planet Ocean: Tides are changing". On this World Ocea Day, the United Nations joins policymakers, indigenous leaders, scientists, private sector executives, civil society, celebrities, youth activists and others in focusing on oceans.

With 90 percent of large fish stocks depleted and 50 percent of coral reefs destroyed, we are taking far more from the ocean than it can resupply. We need to work together to establish a new balance between mankind and the ocean, to stop abusing Marine resources, but to restore the vitality of the ocean and inject new vitality into the ocean.

For all its benefits, the ocean still needs support right now.

The ocean produces at least 50 percent of the planet's oxygen, is home to most of the planet's biodiversity, and more than 1 billion people around the world consume a majority of their protein. And the oceans are vital to our economy. The Marine industry is expected to employ 40 million people by 2030.

Oceans cover more than 70 percent of the earth. It is the source of our life, and the life of humans and all other living things on Earth depends on the ocean.
