① Low density, the general density is not greater than 0.7g/cm³, because greater than this value will greatly increase the volume of buoyancy material;
② does not react with water, more insoluble in water, low water absorption;
③ can withstand high hydrostatic pressure;
④ The bulk elastic modulus is similar to or slightly higher than sea water;
⑤ Should not be combustible and toxic.
Buoyancy materials are mainly installed inside or outside the frame of various underwater delivery systems (such as underwater robots and deep-sea vehicles) to provide sufficient static buoyancy for deep-sea vehicles. At the same time, umbilical cable floats provide buoyancy for umbilical cables of cabled underwater vehicles to ensure zero buoyancy and stable working status of underwater robots. In addition, when the mechanical power stops or an accident occurs, such as the umbilical cable breaks, the floating body installed outside the submersible can ensure that it automatically floats, and will not be lost to ensure the safety of life and property. At the same time, high-performance solid buoyancy materials play a key role in the design and manufacture of large-depth underwater delivery systems (such as manned deep-sea vehicles) to increase their payload and reduce their dimensions.
