Structural design of solid buoyant materials

Solid buoyancy materials are used in deep-sea submersibles. They are mainly bonded and machined by buoyancy materials to form the streamlined shape of deep-sea submersibles, improve the hydrodynamic performance and stability of deep-sea submersibles, provide positive buoyancy for submersibles, and protect the pressure shell and internal instruments and equipment to prevent them from directly colliding with external objects. In the structure of manned submersible, the mass of buoyancy material generally accounts for 1/3 of the total mass of manned submersible. The less dense and lighter the buoyancy material, the more buoyancy it provides for the submersible. In recent years, reducing the density of buoyancy materials is still the focus of research, but it is becoming more and more difficult. In order to reduce the mass of submersible and reduce the use of fiberglass steel shell as much as possible, a part of the external buoyancy block is required to directly form the shape of submersible, which puts forward higher requirements for the design, processing and installation of buoyancy block.

In the design of solid buoyancy material structure, whether its technical performance index is advanced or not will directly affect the total mass and performance of submersible. It is not only necessary to consider the material characteristics, processing technology, strength and stability of the structure itself, but also to consider the overall arrangement, overall line type, center of gravity balance and the interaction between various external structures. From Solid Buoyancy Materials
